This
is a reconstruction of a gun wheel from the year 1471. Reconstructions
and the mysterious technologies of the medieval period have
long fascinated me.
Recent
work has included conservation of horse-drawn vehicles for
museums, involving some new areas of chemical expertise. An
unusual recent job was this model for a corporate client, here
on my kitchen table before it left for the boardroom.
Finally,
here is a picture taken in 1977, I am little more than a callow
yoof, but the picture reminds me of how times have changed,
the good blacksmith who did our welding for us then didn’t
have an angle grinder. A lot of varied experience over the
years has brought me to the point where I can now add the description ‘chariot
maker or builder, and museum conservator to carriage builder
and wheelwright’.
